The 110th Annual General Meeting of the Ladies’ College Old Girls’ Association was held on Saturday, 26th October 2019 at 10:00am in the Mabel Simon Hall. As always, a Sri Lankan buffet breakfast was served to attendees in the Old Hall prior to the commencement of the AGM.
The AGM commenced with a prayer by Patroness, Mrs Eesha Speldewinde. Outgoing President of the LC OGA, Mrs Niloufer Vandergert gave a welcome speech highlighting the activities that the OGA had organised during the year, and, on behalf of the OGA, presented Mrs Speldewinde with a cheque for LKR 1.5 million for the ongoing development of the school.
Mrs Fathima Aziz was appointed the President of the LC OGA for 2019 – 2021.
Mrs Nirmali Wickremesinghe completed two three-year terms as the OGA Representative on the CMS Governing Body. Mrs Manisha Pieris was appointed as the new OGA Representative on the CMS Governing Body.
Mrs Speldewinde gave a brief overview of school news for the year, including a summary of the students’ achievements in academic, sporting and extra-curricular spheres. She also described the enhanced security measures that have been implemented in the school in response to the Easter Sunday attacks.
Amendments to the Constitution
The following amendment to the Constitution of the Ladies’ College Old Girls’ Association proposed by the Executive Committee (as agreed at its meeting of 12th of September 2019) was passed at the AGM:
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Constitution of the Ladies’ College Old Girls’ Association be amended as follows-
The provisions of Article 4(2)(b) of the Constitution shall be amended to read as follows:
" the Following shall be eligible to be Associate Members of the Association:
(i) Any old girl who had been a student of the College for a period that is less than three years; or
(ii) (ii) Any old boy of the College; or
(iii) (iii) A past or present teacher of the College who has served a total of fifteen (15) calendar years as a teacher of the College."
