FOUNDERS’ DAY SERVICE OF THANKSGIVING
The OGA commemorated its 123rd Founders' Day with an inspiring service of thanksgiving and praise, at the "Chapel of the Hope of the World". The theme for the service this year was "and this is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith" 1 JOHN 5:4
It was a glorious and blessed morning to have our members celebrate, in fellowship and praise our creator, for all His blessings and the wondrous works accomplished in our school over the decades.
Roshanara Page (President - Ladies’ College, Old Girls’ Association) delivered the opening prayer while the thanksgiving prayer was offered by Anila Dias Bandaranaike (OGA Representative on the Governing Body). Premala de Mel (Committee Member – Ladies’ College, Old Girls’ Association) presented the first reading of the service followed by Ranmalee Balasooriya (Vice Principal, Ladies’ College) presenting the Gospel reading. The sermon was beautifully presented by Deepika Dassenaike (Principal, Ladies’ College) and she displayed a power point presentation making the message more effective to the congregation.. Shaemali Sumanatilleke De Zilwa (Assistant Secretary – Ladies’ College Old Girls’ Association) delivered the prayers of the people on that day.
FOUNDERS’ DAY BRUNCH
The OGA held its Founders' Day brunch on 18th February, 2023 at 11 am. The decor transported everyone to Santorini, Greece, with the inclusion of red bougainvillea and foliage. A cream coloured fabric place mat carried an individual menu card and a ladies folding fan. The place setting was completed with a red and white printed serviette and a piece of love cake wrapped in red foil paper. Each table also included cinnamon and raisin rolls on a silver platter.
The morning began with the acoustic music of Minesh D. Deepika and Ranmalee who arrived by 11 am were greeted at the old hall and were escorted to their respective tables. After the singing of the school hymn, the President of the OGA, Mrs. Roshanara Page, welcomed the members.
Deepika and Ranmalee cut a beautiful tiered cake, adorned with bougainvillea sugar flowers. Compere for the morning, Dharini Speldewinde briefed our members on all past and future initiatives of the Association, with special emphasis on the Main Hall Renovation Fundraiser. The vote of thanks and concluding prayer was said by Anjali Karunaratne, Vice President of the OGA. Anjali, in her speech, thanked Deepika for her unstinting support to the OGA at all times, followed by a special word of thanks to Mr. Trevine Gomez and Mr. Chirath Devasurendra of Green Cabin for their commitment to giving us an exceptional brunch spread and excellent service. Further, Anjali went on to thank Hatton National Bank for coming in as our main event sponsor with a financial sponsorship of Rupees Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand. A thank you was also extended to Vidyani, Anargi and Niranjani for their cooperation in assisting in the logistics of the day. Anjali also appreciated the round the clock help given by the support staff of the school. Concluding her speech, she went on to recognise the committee for their continued support in crafting everything together to create this successful event.
Thereafter, Dharini requested that all those present patronise the pop up market in the front garden and support the vendors. She further reminded the members of the ‘stories of faith’ books which were available for sale at the front foyer. Members were urged to purchase the exciting array of LC Merchandise that were also available for sale.

POP UP MARKET 2023
A pop up bazaar vendors market was held alongside the Founders' Day brunch. This event was free and open to the public. Over 45 vendors signed up for the market and we had a wide variety of retailers present.
Products from fast food items to clothing, handmade jewelry, batik, wood works, agri products, plants, homemade chutneys, jams and other bottled items, cane products, rugs, sarees, coffee, jams and sauces, cheese, paintings etc. were available and the list was expansive.
A sum of Rupees Three Hundred and Five Thousand Six Hundred and Fifty was raised from the pop up market.
